Arriving in Tampere

If you are arriving to Finland by flying, you are likely to land at Helsinki-Vantaa airport (HEL). You can then take a train from the Helsinki airport to Tampere railway station (tickets can be purchased from the VR website: https://www.vr.fi/en). You will need to switch trains at Tikkurila station. The total travel time from the airport to Tampere is 1 h 36 mins or 1 h 51 mins depending on the connection.

Some airlines offer flights to Tampere-Pirkkala airport (TMP) that is located right next to Tampere. There is a bus connection from the airport to Tampere city centre: https://www.nysse.fi/en/airport. The travel time is around 20 minutes and the ticket costs 4.50€ (7.50€ after midnight). You can also order a taxi: https://www.finavia.fi/en/airports/tampere-pirkkala/parking-access/taxis.

Things to see and do

When in Tampere, we recommend that you visit the Finnish Museum of Games (a free, private tour is included in the seminar programme on Wednesday evening!). Tampere also has many other interesting attractions to offer, such as the world’s only Moomin museum, and Tampere is the sauna capital of Finland. Find out more about what Tampere has to offer on the Visit Tampere website.
